Genesis 2:24 So a man will leave his father and mother and be united with his wife and the two will become one body.
The wedding was beautiful. Pastor Greenwood came from Wichita, Kansas, to help marry them—in full ministerial robes. His words were personal, like he was just talking to Todd and Somer. There was a sermon, a blessing, the promises, and the kiss. They were married before us, family and friends, and before God. It was wonderful to be surrounded by our Clearwater friends and family and share this celebration. It made our day extra special.
There were formal pictures in the courtyard, and then the reception. As I watched them both, Todd so handsome and Somer so beautiful, I was overwhelmed with emotion. I could see in their eyes how much they loved each other. These were our children, beginning a new life together as a married couple. We finally had a daughter who we loved and adored.
A mother knows that when her son is born, she can only keep him for a short while. I let go of him many times as he grew. I kissed him goodnight before I went to sleep. I let him go to the babysitter, then daycare, followed by kindergarten, church camps, high school and college. All these experiences let Todd grow into the man he is today.
I let go of my little boy that day. I was proud of him as he took his wife to start their own life—apart from ours. Todd gained four sisters, brothers, another mother, father, a grandmother, aunts, uncles and cousins.
PRAYER: Dear Father, Todd and Somer made a choice today—to marry, to become one, and to spend the rest of their lives together. May they continue to grow in love and make good choices. May they choose to know You and to serve You. May they choose to bring their children up in a church and teach them to follow You. May they choose to be Christian parents, and Todd a Christian businessman. Thank you, Father, for a daughter and grandchildren who will be added to our family tree. Amen
May we all choose to have Christ first in our lives, and raise our families to follow You.
