I graduated from the LEAD program in 1996 through Manhattan Christian College, Manhattan, Kansas. In their alumni news letter was this reflection written by Dacia Whitely, age 17, a senior in Christian Ministry. I like Dacia’s sweet spirit and a great message for Lent.
If I were to never write another word, could the words that so prominently live inside still be heard?
If never again were I to sing your praise, would they still be able to tell my love just from seeing my face?
If I were to never speak of your amazing grace, would my actions reveal your heart to them?
If all I had was what they see, could they tell that you live in me?
Do I allow you to shine through my entirety, or do I shut you out and leave some doubt for those who see me?
This is my prayer for today, tomorrow, and far beyond this year.
I pray my actions are dependent on you and all these if’s come true.
I not only pray that my words stand true, but that when the world looks at me they simply see you.
Change me into this person I wish to be, because I wish to follow the man who died on the tree.
